Doge Meme Template
Doge features a Shiba Inu dog with a distinctive sideways glance, surrounded by Comic Sans text in bright colors expressing fragmented internal monologue in broken English, often starting with 'such,' 'very,' 'wow,' or 'much.' It is used to express simple observations, enthusiasm, or bemused commentary on any topic, with the fractured grammar being central to the humor. The format is one of the foundational memes of the early 2010s internet.

Where the Doge meme comes from
A 2010 blog post by Japanese kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sato, who shared photos of her Shiba Inu named Kabosu, including the distinctive side-eye pose, is where this image originates. After spreading through Reddit and Tumblr, the photo became a viral meme in 2013, and the 'Doge' spelling and speech pattern became inseparable from the image. Kabosu passed away in May 2024.
How to caption the Doge meme
Surround the dog's face with short, color-coded Comic Sans phrases using 'such,' 'very,' 'much,' and 'wow' followed by single adjectives or nouns related to your topic. Keep the phrases sparse and scattered around the image rather than in a block, and end with a standalone 'wow' for the classic structure. Best uses for the Doge template
Use the Doge template when the joke fits a animal format and the image can explain the feeling before the reader finishes the caption. It is strongest for cute reactions, chaotic moods, and warm low-stakes jokes.
This blank is 620 x 620 px and is a still image, so place the most important words where they stay readable after a feed crop. The near-square frame is flexible for feeds, group chats, Reddit, and Discord.
The sample captions leave room for a setup and a punchline without turning into a paragraph. Before exporting, read the caption once without looking at the image; if it still needs a long explanation, switch to a simpler setup or a more obvious related template.
Caption patterns to try
| Pattern | Why it works |
|---|---|
| such deadline. very monday. much coffee. so tired. wow | This works because it gives the reader a specific situation instead of a vague label. |
| much code. very bug. such 2am. no sleep. wow | This pattern keeps the setup concrete, which helps the template carry the reaction. |
| such gym. very protein. much sore. so regret. wow | This is a useful direction when you want the punchline to feel personal or self-aware. |
Common mistakes with this blank
- Writing a caption that explains the whole joke instead of letting the Doge image do part of the work.
- Placing text over the most expressive part of the image, especially faces, gestures, signs, or the main action.
- Using three different ideas in one meme. This template works better when it points at one clear situation.
- Exporting before checking the meme at phone size. If the smallest words blur together, shorten the caption first.
